The Central Bank of Azerbaijan has issued commemorative coins dedicated to the first European Games - Baku 2015.

Coins made by the Royal Mint of Britain are devoted to five types of sports competitions. They struck the image on the obverse side of the coin and on the reverse - the emblem of Azerbaijan national ornaments and a crescent moon.

"International projects and events in the fields of sports, culture, science, education, health and others, which are held in the country, with a major contribution to the socio-economic situation and development of the national cultural values reinforce the position of Azerbaijan in the international arena.

One of such events is the first European Games to be held in Baku in June 2015. The event is considered a great historical event, and its holding will raise the international prestige of Azerbaijan," the CBA stated on June 3.

The commemorative coins will be available in commercial banks and specialized points of sales during the Games, the report said.

Earlier, another emblem of the Games – Baku 2015 European Games stamp was issued.

The series consists of five souvenir blocks, each of which has four stamps. The stamps feature all 20 sports represented at Baku 2015. Each stamp was issued in the edition of 100,000 copies.

The inaugural Baku 2015 European Games is an historic event for the continent. It will gather some 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports.
