European Games to destroy many myths about Azerbaijan

The first European Games in Baku will destroy many myths about Azerbaijan, chairman of the Foundation for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights Murad Sadeddinov said during the “round table” dedicated to the first European Games and conducted with the participation of heads of reputable human rights organizations of Azerbaijan.

He said that the first European Games in Baku is a good global project for Azerbaijan. “Some people with the help of our notorious neighbors criticize Azerbaijan, show Azerbaijanis like savages in order to separate Karabakh from us,” said human rights activist.

“They spend enough money on it and do not want the myth created by them to collapse. The European Games in Baku will destroy many myths about Azerbaijan. Guests will arrive in the country and see the reality.”

Sadeddinov said that the issue discussed during the “round table” is important not only for human rights activists but also for every citizen of Azerbaijan.

Very little time left for the start of the First European Games in Baku and serious preparations are underway for this event, he said.

He added that some persons criticize Azerbaijan by using the European Games.
“We were born on this land, live here and all problems of this country are our problems,” he said.

“Currently, one issue concerns me: the European Games in Baku are criticized and this criticism is mainly related to the human rights violation in Azerbaijan.”

“This issue concerned me because it is related to the sphere of our activity,” he said. “Of course, there are certain problems in this sphere and we consistently work on them.”

“In the case of necessity, we even benefited from the opportunities of international organizations, created relations with the state structures, appealed to them, achieved and will achieve success in this sphere,” he said.

A round table dedicated to the First European Games was held at the initiative of influential human rights organizations of Azerbaijan and with information support of Trend Agency.

The round table was attended by the heads of humans rights organizations holding various positions, including, the heads of Azerbaijan Foundation for Democracy Development and Human Rights Protection, Oil Workers' Rights Protection Organization, Society for Humanitarian Research in Azerbaijan, Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan and Legal Assistance Public Union.

The appeal adopted following the discussions condemned the campaign to discredit Azerbaijan on the eve of the First European Games.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
