The Azerbaijani Customs Committee as all other state organizations is preparing to host the inaugural European Games, an exciting multi-sport event for the continent on June 12-28.

To this regard, a two-day TAIEX seminar for customs started in the capital on May 21. The seminar, which was aimed to support customs in regards to cargo and passenger traffic flow during major sporting events, was organized by the European Union and the State Customs Committee.

Conducted by experts of the Austria’s Finance Ministry’s Customs Department, the seminar was attended by 30 customs and air transport staff.

The Customs is implementing appropriate work in connection with the European Games, said Aydin Aliyev, the chairman of Azerbaijan State Customs Committee, addressing the event.

He noted that the number of cargo freight is expected to increase during the Games.

The chairman added that the rules of crossing private cars from neighboring countries through the Azerbaijani checkpoint during the Games will not be changed.

Aliyev said the Customs did not involve additional staff in connection with the forthcoming Games. “The exception will only be specialists who speak foreign languages. They will further be involved at checkpoints.”

The European Games to be held in Baku for 17 days will host a total of 20 sports: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe are going to compete at this significant event.
