Azerbaijani athletes shine at Baku 2015 triathlon test event
Young Azerbaijani athletes Denis Karchashkin and Orkhan Heydarli ranked second and third respectively in a triathlon test event at Bilgah ahead of the first European Games.
The women’s triathlon event will take place on June 13, and the men’s event will take place the following day on June 14. Each event will feature 65 competitors swimming, cycling and running against each.
The winner of each event will also gain their NOC direct qualification for the triathlon event at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
