Nine swimmers from the Netherlands have secured Baku 2015 quota places at the Dutch national championships, Baku 2015 reported.

Marrit Steenbergen stood out, locking up spots in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle as well as the 50m backstroke and the 200m medley. She dominated the Swim Cup at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium in Eindhoven.

The 200m freestyle was especially impressive for the Dutch swimmers as Frederique Janssen, Laura van Engelen and Marieke Tienstra also remained under the time limit for the Baku 2015 European Games.

Janssen also earned quota spots at the 50m and 100m freestyle disciplines. Tienstra had a strong showing as well with spots for the Netherlands in 200m butterfly and 200m medley.

Iris Tjonk excelled especially in the butterfly, in which she booked Dutch spots in the 50m, 100m and 200m.

The nine swimmers who secured Baku 2015 spots for the Netherlands are being reviewed by the Dutch National Olympic Committee, the NOC*NSF, which will make the final announcement on the country’s swimming team for Baku 2015.

This year’s exciting and innovative new multi-sport event in Baku will include 20 sports, 16 of which are Olympic, during the 17 days of competition in June 12-28. 6,000 athletes will prove themselves in Azerbaijan’s capital.
