Armenian troops violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 120 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry said.

The ceasefire was violated in Gizilhajili, Mazam villages and nameless hills in Gazakh region, Alibayli, Aghdam villages in Tovuz region, Talish, Gulustan villages in Goranboy region, Goyarkh, Chilaburt, Yarimja villages in Tartar region, Shikhlar, Novruzlu, Javahirli, Kangarli, Sarijali, Shuraabad, Marzili, Garagashli, Yusifjanli villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages in Fuzuli region, Mehdili village in Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills in Gadabay, Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.

Azerbaijani armed forces carried out 121 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
