Azerbaijan sends humanitarian aid to Tajikistan

A ship of Azerbaijan’s Emergency Situations Ministry carrying humanitarian aid has sailed to Tajikistan, which was hit by a quake. The aid was sent under instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.

A ceremony to send the ship from Baku International Sea Trade Port was attended by deputy minister of emergency situations Faig Taghizade and first secretary of the Tajik Embassy in Baku Salimi Khaltoni.

The humanitarian aid was loaded on 11 trucks, and includes 9.5 tons of sugar, 9.5 tons of granulated sugar, 15 tons of rice, 3 tons of tea, more than 16 tons of vegetable oil, 19 tons of flour, 19 tons of macaroni, more than 18 tons of vermicelli, 2000 sets of sleeping sets, 50 generators, 110 shelters, 6000 square meters of roofing slate, and 30 cubic meters of wood.

The magnitude-7.5 quake, which was centered in Afghanistan's sparsely populated Badakhshan province that borders Pakistan, Tajikistan and China took place on October 27. The quake left at least 258 people dead in Pakistan, 115 in Afghanistan and three on the Indian side of the disputed region of Kashmir.
