Baku hosts reception on Latvian Republic Day

An official reception highlighting three events related to Latvia was held in Baku on November 25.

Dedicated to the Latvian Days running in the capital city, the 97th anniversary of the proclamation of the Latvian Republic and honoring the Latvian Economy Minster Reizniece-Ozola’s visit to Azerbaijan, the event brought together many prominent officials, heads of diplomatic missions, businessmen, art figures gathered.

Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuris Maklakovs, Latvian Minister of Economy Dana Reizniece-Ozola and Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mahmud Mammadguliyev addressed the event, emphasizing the high level of ties between the two countries and stressing the desire for further fruitful cooperation.

The guests enjoyed interesting festive program including a photo exhibition entitled “Latvia through the eyes of Azerbaijani” by Aydin Mehdiyev. Moreover, winners of international competitions, Karlis Lacis, and Eve Kerevitsy, Richard Fedotov and Azerbaijani compatriots living in Riga Leyla Aliyeva mesmerized the guests with their performances.

The participants also could taste the Latvian national cuisine, prepaid by cooks Maris Astich and Nikolay Borodkin.

Azerbaijan is hosting Latvian Days from November 23 to December 12. Being held under the slogan “Discover Latvia! Feel Latvia!” the event features Latvian culture and its national cuisine.

Within the days, Baku hosts a number of economic, cultural and artistic events, to strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia.

Earlier on November 25, the Azerbaijani-Latvian business forum, bringing together about 90 Azerbaijani and Latvian businessmen was held.

Today, Baku’s Heydar Aliyev Center is hosting an exhibition of Latvian artists entitled "Different Sea. One World," which will last until February 29.
