Azerbaijan, France ties in focus

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has received the newly appointed Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan, Aurelia Bouchez, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported.

Bouchez presented copies of her credentials to Mammadyarov.

The minister congratulated the ambassador on her new appointment. He expressed hope that the ambassador will contribute to further strengthening of relations between the two countries.

The sides expressed satisfaction with development of relations between France and Azerbaijan in political, economic, scientific, educational, energy and other fields.

Bouchez said that during the period of her work as a diplomat, she will spare no effort to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

Mammadyarov wished Bouchez success in her diplomatic activity.

France recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on January 3, 1992. Azerbaijan and France established diplomatic relations in February 1992.

Azerbaijan and France are actively developing their relations. The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and France amounted to $1.681 billion in 2014.

French companies are actively participating in the petrochemical, food, agricultural, machine engineering, tourism and other spheres in Azerbaijan.

Some 91 companies from France are involved in the oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan as subcontractors. At the same time, over 50 French companies are involved in the non-oil sectors' projects, including the first Azerbaijani telecommunications satellite Azerspace, and a plant for solid waste recycling.
