Development of Nakhchivan opens wide prospects for boosting Azerbaijani-French ties

Current cooperation opportunities between France and Azerbaijan were mulled as Vasif Talibov, Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, has met French ambassador to Baku Pascal Meunier.

Talibov stressed the role of the ambassador in development of Azerbaijani-French ties.

He highlighted existing relations between the country`s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and France in various directions, including in the fields of science, education, art, voicing hope that this cooperation would be continued in the future.

Meunier, in turn, spoke about bilateral relations between the two countries saying development of Nakhchivan opened new wide prospects for boosting bonds.

He also thanked for the condition created to study French language at the Nakhchivan State University.

France recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on January 3, 1992. Azerbaijan and France established diplomatic relations in February 1992.

Azerbaijan and France are actively developing their relations. The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and France amounted to $1.681 billion in 2014.

French companies are actively participating in the petrochemical, food, agricultural, machine engineering, tourism and other spheres in Azerbaijan.

Some 91 companies from France are involved in the oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan as subcontractors. At the same time, over 50 French companies are involved in the non-oil sectors' projects, including the first Azerbaijani telecommunications satellite Azerspace, and a plant for solid waste recycling.
