Armenian troops breach ceasefire 133 times throughout the day

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 133 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defence Ministry reported on September 11.

Armenian armed forces, located in Armenia's Barekamayan village of Noyemberyan region subjected to fire the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in Gaymagli village of Gazakh region.

The ceasefire was violated in Talish, Tap Garagoyunlu and Gulustan villages of Goranboy region, Goyarkh village of Tartar region, Sarijali, Kangarli, Shikhlar, Marzili, Javahirli, Novruzlu, Shuraabad, Garagashli and Yusifjanli villages in Agdam, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand region, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli and Gorgan villages in Fuzuli, Mehdili village of Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills of Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.

The enemy was silenced with a retaliatory fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
