Azerbaijan may face problems with mud flows in August, according to Asif Verdiyev, the chief hydrologist of National Hydrometeorology Department of country's Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry.

“It is expected that in some regions of the country the amount of monthly precipitation will exceed the average norm. Due to rain on some days in August a short-term mudflows are possible,” he said.

Verdiev also noted that it is impossible to say in advance which rivers are expected to flood or produce mud flows. “In case of threat, the population will be informed about this,” the hydrologist said.

Earlier lbrus Alizade, the deputy director of the Geography Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, mentioned that as compared to the 1960-70s, areas prone to mud flows in Azerbaijan have grown by 2-2.5 times.

However, Alizade added that compared to last year, mud flows are expected to not be as powerful.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan is immersed in sunshine. Forecasters predict that the temperature in the country will reach up to 43 degrees C on August 4.

Baku and the Absheron Peninsula will see sunny weather and southeasterly winds. The temperature will stand at 24-27 degrees C at night and 33-38 degrees C during the day, sometimes exceeding 40 degrees C.

Some mountain areas of Azerbaijan will experience short thunderstorms and eastern wind in the evening and at night.

The temperature will be 22-27 degrees C at night and will range between 35 and 43 C during the day.

In mountain areas, the temperature is predicted to be 17-22 degrees C at night, while during the day it will stand at 29-34 C.

The Labour Ministry warned that while working outdoors in temperatures above 41 degrees C or in rooms without air-conditioning systems, all work should be stopped and employees should be provided with breaks. Otherwise the employers will be fined.
