The 47th International Chemistry Olympiad, organized by the Baku Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University, has successfully ended in Azerbaijan.

The results of the international competition were announced in a closing ceremony organized in capital Baku on July 28 to award the young scientists.

The Chinese chemists won the most of the gold medals. Absolute winner of the Chemistry Olympiad was Yifu Ouyang.

Azerbaijan’s young chemists grabbed two medal of the International Chemistry Olympiad. Young chemists Huseyn Babayev, who finished 10th grade at the Istek Lyceum in 2015, and Sergey Stepin, a graduate of the Lyceum named after academician Zarifa Aliyeva, were awarded the bronze medal.

The Olympiad was a great chance for the young chemists to show their knowledge and at the same time to gain practice, which would be useful for them in future.

Nargiz Pashayeva, the president of the 47th Chemistry Olympiad and Rector of Baku Branch of Moscow State University earlier said the organizers spared no effort to ensure impartial, grandiose holding of the competition and to provide the right place with relevant conditions.

“Your wishes, hopes and demands are inseparable from our wishes, hopes and demands,” Pashayeva said during the opening ceremony. “You, the future scholars of chemistry, should always bear in mind the courage to learn, discover, as well as passion and burning desire to invent.”

The international competition gathered 300 young chemists from five continents and 75 countries, as well as over 250 professional chemists, experts, professors, supervisors, and team leaders.

The participants from around the world who came to Baku to take part in this great science competition enjoyed state-of-the-art facilities of the Baku Branch of Moscow State University, featuring laboratories equipped with the latest technology up to date equipment.

Alongside with different exams to test the participants’ level of knowledge in the classes and laboratories of Baku Branch of Moscow State University, the participants were given tours of Baku and the national museums of the capital city.
