Armenian troops violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Armenian armed forces have broken the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 65 times in numerous positions in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on May 26.

Armenian armed forces, located in the village of Chinari of Armenia’s Berd district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Kokhanebi of the Tovuz district.

Armenian armed forces, located in the village of Aygepar of Armenia’s Berd district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Alibayli of the Tovuz district.

Azerbaijani positions located on the nameless heights of the Gadabay district, took fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Armenia’s Krasnoselskiy district.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located near the villages of Chayli, Chileburt, Goyarkh of the Terter district, Shuraabad, Sarijali, Javahirli, Shikhlar, Yusifjanli of the Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of the Khojavend district, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Garakhanbeyli of the Fizuli district and Mehdili of the Jabrail district.

Moreover, Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Jabrail, Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavend and Fizuli districts.

The enemy was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
