President Aliyev receives Russian film director
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received chairman of the
Russian Cinematographers Union, film director Nikita Mikhalkov on
April 1, AzerTac state news agency reported.
Mikhalkov said he was pleased to visit Azerbaijan.
Noting that he witnessed unprecedented development in Baku, the film director recalled with pleasure that an episode in one of his films was shot in the Azerbaijani capital.
Touching upon big development processes in the country, Mikhalkov praised national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in establishing and strengthening statehood after Azerbaijan restored its independence.
President Aliyev said Azerbaijani-Russian ties were developing in various fields, including in humanitarian area.
The president noted that Mikhalkov’s visit will contribute to the development of cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Russia.
President Aliyev said culture, including cinematography enjoyed
state support in Azerbaijan, adding continuous work is being
carried out to promote Azerbaijani culture worldwide.
The parties exchanged views over prospects for cooperation between
the two countries in culture, including cinematography.
Mikhalkov handed over a keepsake to President Aliyev.
Mikhalkov will hold master classes for young filmmakers. The
film director will also get familiar with the sights of Baku.
He is the author of such films as Five Nights, Unfinished Piece for
the Player Piano, A few Days in the Life of I.I Oblomov, Without
Witnesses, Black Eyes, Urga: Territory of Love, Burnt by the Sun,
The Barber of Siberia, 12 and others.
