Karti then visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity.

He put a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.

During the three-day visit, Karti will hold a range of meetings with the country`s officials, including his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Sudan were established February 16, 1993.

As a member of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Sudan opened its embassy in Azerbaijan as early as 1993. From 1993 to 1999 the Embassy of Sudan acted in Baku.

However, Sudan had to suspend the activity of its diplomatic mission in Baku in 1999 due to financial difficulties.
