Turkish president has said his country shares the pain of Azerbaijanis affected by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the remarks on March 17 while addressing the opening ceremony of the technical lycée named after Heydar Aliyev in the Turkish city of Kars together with his Azerbaijani and Georgian counterparts, Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Giorgi Margvelashvili, TRT Haber news channel reported.

Erdogan said for Turkey, there is no difference between the citizens living in Kars, Igdir and Azerbaijanis living in Nakhchivan.

He added that Turkey doesn’t intend to feud with any country, stressing that Turkey and Azerbaijan will always be together.

Azerbaijan-Turkey relations have always been strong due to a common culture and history and the mutual intelligibility of Turkish and Azerbaijani languages.

Turkey was the first country in the world to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and it has since been a staunch supporter of Azerbaijan in its efforts to consolidate its independence, preserve its territorial integrity, and realize its economic potential that arise from the rich natural resources of the Caspian Sea.

Turkey cut diplomatic ties and closed its border with Armenia after the country invaded Azerbaijan's territories in the early 1990s and Yerevan’s claims over recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide in the world.

President Aliyev, for his part, said the two countries share the same position on all issues and have brought their political relations to the highest level.

“Azerbaijan and Turkey always supported each other within international organizations. Turkey's growing power also strengthens Azerbaijan. Today, Turkey is the world’s power center. Turkey has passed a long way under the leadership of Erdogan in recent years. Works done today in Kars confirm it,” President Aliyev underlined.

President Aliyev expressed satisfaction for visiting the brotherly state of Turkey once again.

“Today, after landing at Kars airport, I first visited the park named after Heydar Aliyev and the monument in his honor,” Aliyev said, expressing deep gratitude for the respect Turkey showed to Azerbaijan’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Kars and Turkey in general.

The Azerbaijani leader said Heydar Aliyev had great services for the development of Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, adding that he was constantly making efforts for further strengthening of Turkish-Azerbaijani unity and brotherhood.
