OSCE monitoring on contact line ends without incidents
Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported that the OSCE mission conducted a monitoring on troops contact line near Tap Garagoyunlu village of Azerbaijan`s Goranboy region on March 4 in accordance with the mandate of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.
The monitoring ended without an incident.
The monitoring was held, on the Azerbaijani side, by Personal
Representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, his
field assistant Hristo Hristov and OSCE High-Level Planning Group
Representative, Colonel Tuncay Sevim.
From the opposite side, the monitoring was conducted by field
assistants of the Personal Representative of the OSCE
Chairperson-in-Office Evgeny Sharov, Peter Swedberg and OSCE
High-Level Planning Group Representative, Colonel Markus
Widmer.
Drawn into a conflict it did not initiate, Azerbaijan has warned it would not stand idly while its people's lives are put in harm's way by Armenian soldiers.
Back in 1992, following a violent and bloody conflict, Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts plunging the South Caucasus region into a protracted conflict.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has yet to comply with UN Security Council resolutions calling for the liberation of all occupied territories.
