President Aliyev receives Greco-Roman wrestling team

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has received the members of the
national Greco-Roman wrestling team who won the World Cup in
Iran.
President Aliyev, who also chairs the National Olympic Committee,
congratulated the athletes and members of the Wrestling Federation
over the victory.
He described this achievement as the triumph of the national
wrestling school and the result of the fruitful organization of
work in Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
Touching upon the development of sports in Azerbaijan, the
president highlighted the world sports community’s praising
Azerbaijan's sports.
Noting that the number of medals has been increasing year by year, the head of state stressed the importance of establishing perfect sports infrastructure.
President Aliyey stressed that the sports occupied an important
place in the state policy.

Nuraddin Rajabov thanked the head of state for the state attention
to sports.
Sportsmen from Azerbaijan, Iran, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Turkey, Sweden and Armenia took part in the competition held in Tehran on February 19-20.
Azerbaijan’s national wrestling team claimed its first ever gold medal at this grandiose event, beating rival Russian team in the finale.
The final round of the championship saw the victories of Azerbaijani wrestlers Hasan Aliyev (66 kg), Rasul Chunayev (71 kg), Rafig Huseynov (80 kg) and Islam Abbasov (85 kg) over Russian wrestlers.
