UN chief to join Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Baku

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will attend the forum of UN Alliance of Civilizations to be held in Baku in 2016.
The issue was mulled at the meeting of Abulfas Garayev, Azerbaijan Culture and Tourism Minister, who is on a visit to the US, and Ban Ki-moon, the Culture and Tourism Ministry reported on January 27.
Garayev briefed the UN Secretary General about Azerbaijan’s contribution to the initiatives on ensuring global peace and dialogue and invited him to attend the 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue to be held in Azerbaijan on May 18-19, 2015.
The parties also mulled the relations between Azerbaijan and UN,
the prospects for cooperation with the organizations which are
included in the system of UN, particularly UNESCO, UN Alliance of
Civilizations, World Tourism Organization and UN Development
Program.
The meeting underscored that Azerbaijan has historical traditions
of coexistence with other cultures and religions and promotes these
traditions at the international level.
Ban Ki-moon, for his part, said that Azerbaijan’s contribution to
the global peace and cooperation as a non-permanent member of UN
Security Council, as well as the chairmanship of Azerbaijani
President Ilham Aliyev at the Council’s meeting left a good
impression on him.
