Armenian troops breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military 126 times violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops using large-caliber machine guns, mortars and rocket-propelled grenades, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on January 27.

Armenian armed forces stationed in the Parakavar and Vazashen villages of Ijevan district and Barekamavan, Voskevan, Shavarshavan villages of Noyemberian district of Armenia fired at the Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions on nameless heights in the Kohnegishlag village of Agstafa district and Gaymagli, Kemerli, Gushchu Ayrim, Farahli villages of Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani armed forces located in the Garavelliler village of Gedabey district also took fire from the nameless heights in the Ijevan district of Armenia.

The armed forces of Armenia stationed on the nameless heights in the Aygepar, Mosesgeh, Chinari villages of the Berd district of Armenia also shot at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the Alibeyli, Hajialili, Agbulag, Kokhanebi villages of Tovuz district.

Azerbaijani armed forces also underwent fire on the nameless heights in the Gadabay district from positions in the Armenian district of Krasnoselsk.

The Azerbaijani military also came under fire from positions near the Talish village of Goranboy district, Goyarkh, Chilebord villages of Terter district, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Javahirli, Marzili, Shuraabad, Garagashli, Novruzlu, Sarijali, Kengerli villages of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, Ashagi Veysalli village of Fizuli district and nameless heights in Goy-Gol, Goranboy, Khojavand and Fizuli districts.

The enemy was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
