Armenians breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan
The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia
has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire
a total of 62 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defence
Ministry reported.
The ceasefire was violated in Alibeyli village of Tovuz region,
Hajiveyli village of Aghdam region, Kohnegishlag village of
Aghstafa region, Gizilhajili, Kemerli, Gaymagli villages of Gazakh
region, Gulustan village of Goranboy region, Chilaburt, Goyarkh
villages of Terter region, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli, Marzili,
Shikhlar, Bash Qervend, Kengerli, Sarijali, Javahirli, Novruzlu
villages of Agdam region, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand region,
Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmedli villages of Fuzuli region, and
Mehdili village of Jabrayil region.
The enemy was silenced with a retail fire.
Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire
in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN
Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and
unconditional withdrawal.
Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. have produced
no results so far.
