Azerbaijan-Belgium relations  in focus

Azerbaijan and Belgium have explored ways of developing relations as Azerbaijan`s ambassador Fuad Isgandarov has met newly elected President of the Chamber of Representatives Siegfried Bracke.

The sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries in a variety of spheres, particularly the interparliamentary ties, AzerTag state news agency reported.

They stressed the importance of the interparliamentary cooperation in terms of the development of Azerbaijan-Belgium relations.

Isgandarov spoke of Azerbaijan`s stance in the region, describing the country as a bridge between the Europe and Asia. “Azerbaijan, which has difficult geographical situation, started to integrate into Europe after restoration of its independence,” he noted.

Highlighting the current situation of economic relations between the two countries, Isgandarov said the expansion of economic cooperation and active participation of Belgian companies in Azerbaijan during passed one year are “positive trends” in bilateral relations.

The envoy stressed the need for strengthening of political relations against the backdrop of developing bilateral economic ties.

He recalled Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov`s Belgium trip in 2013, saying the visit made a push to the expansion of interparliamentary cooperation.

Bracke, in turn, noted the significance of high-level reciprocal visits in terms of the development of bonds between the two countries.

He expressed readiness for the political dialogue between the parliaments of Belgium and Azerbaijan.
