Baku, Brooklyn establish friendship

Baku’s most attractive Sabail District and New York’s picturesque Brooklyn will become sister cities.
A delegation led by Asif Asgarov, Head of Sabail District Executive Authority met Eric Adams, Brooklyn Borough President and signed a protocol on friendship and cooperation, AzerTag state news agency reported.
Speaking before the signing ceremony, Adams said he visited
Azerbaijan in 2012 to watch Eurovision song contest. Adams added he
was deeply impressed by what he saw in the Azerbaijani capital.
He said building business ties between Brooklyn and Sabail will
stimulate bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture and
tourism.
Asgarov highlighted Azerbaijan`s development in the years of
independence, and the country`s achievements in the past few
years.
He also spoke of preparatory works for Baku 2015 European Games,
and invited the Brooklyn Borough President to the Azerbaijani
capital to watch the event.
Asgarov also highlighted construction works underway in Sabail.
Counsellor of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington Mammad Talibov
hailed Azerbaijani-U.S. partnership as strategic.
He praised the opening of Baku-New York flight, saying it testified
to Azerbaijan`s prosperity and positive dynamics of the development
of the two countries` relations.
Talıbov said Azerbaijan had rich tolerance traditions, adding
representatives of various ethnicities and religions have
peacefully co-existed in the country in peace and security for
centuries.
Sabail district is a central and ancient dwelling of Baku city which is located along the Caspian Sea.
There are monuments dating back to the ancient age and medieval centuries in the territory of the district. Icherisheher (Old City) is the most magnificent of the historical monuments existing in Azerbaijan and included in the world cultural heritage items by UNESCO. Icherisheher is over 1000 years old. Shirvanshah palace complex which is another astonishing state historical architectural museum-preserve is its masterpiece.
"Shahidlar Khiyabani" (Martyrs Avenue) and "Fakhri Khiyaban" (Honorary Avenue), Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as many recreational and leisure centers, including Fountains Square, Coastal Boulevard and Freedom Square which are the main places in Baku to be visit for Baku’s population and its guests are located in this district.
Brooklyn is the most populous of New York City’s five boroughs, with about 2.6 million people, as well as the second-largest in area.
Every year the city attracts thousands of tourists and locals, who enjoy spectacular views of lower Manhattan and other city landmarks.
It is home to many New York’s top attractions, including the Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Promenade, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Coney Island Cyclone.
