Azerbaijan, Iran sign 5 MoUs

Azerbaijan and Iran signed five agreements during the official visit of an Iranian delegation headed by President Hassan Rouhani to Baku.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev first welcomed President Rouhani and then had a one-to-one meeting with him on November 12.

Bilateral relations and other regional and international issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the successfully developing bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iran in the political, economic, humanitarian and other fields.

They also expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to the strengthening of bilateral ties and the expansion of economic cooperation.

The presidents also met in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from the two sides.

Following, a signing ceremony was held with the participation of the head of states.

Deputy Director of Iranian ‘Tavani’ company Davud Manzur and Director of the Azerbaijan State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Akim Badalov signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Azerbaijan State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources and the Energy Ministry of Iran.

Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia and Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev signed a Memorandum of Understanding on economic and technical cooperation between the Azerbaijani Economy and Industry Ministry and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran.

Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of postal services between the Ministries, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies between two sides.

Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov signed a Memorandum on cooperation in regulation of border rivers and coastal management between the two countries.

The relations between neighboring countries, Azerbaijan and Iran, with a long history of bilateral ties and cooperation have recently risen to a new level.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.
