President Aliyev reviews construction progress at Baku Olympic Stadium

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the European Games Mehriban Aliyeva have reviewed the progress of construction project of Baku Olympic Stadium.

The president and the first lady regularly review the progress of construction at the Baku Olympic Stadium, which is designed to host various sports tournaments. They also give their instructions and recommendations to the relevant bodies.

They visited different construction areas at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

President Aliyev was informed about the works done at the stadium by officials in charge.

The Baku Olympic Stadium with a capacity up to 69,000 will be in made in a fine and modern style. It is expected to take a leading position among the capital's sports facilities.

The six-storey stadium will provide some special seats for the disabled. It will also have some 3,100 parking lots.

The stadium will also include some multipurpose stands, a running track and other facilities. The construction process will go ahead in accordance with the International Building Code, as well as those of UEFA and FIFA.

The stadium, which will be the largest in the Caucasus, will stretch across 50 hectares. Its height would be 62 meters.

The stadium will be the main venue for Baku 2015 European Games and host opening and closing ceremonies.

The first European games will take place from June 12 to 28, 2015. More than 6,000 athletes will compete in a total of 20 sports over 17 days.

High government attention is paid to the rapid development of sports and other fields in the country. Today, Azerbaijan is a world-renowned country in terms of sports. The decision to hold a prestigious tournament of the first European Games in Azerbaijan is yet another evidence of this progress.
