Personal exhibition of the proclaimed French artist, Bernard Buffet, has opened at Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.

The ceremony was attended by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, and Arzu Aliyeva.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Leyla Aliyeva expressed her pleasure of bringing the works of Bernard Buffet to Baku and exhibiting at Heydar Aliyev Center projected by one of the talented architectures of the world Zaha Hadid.

"I for the first time got acquainted with creativity of Buffet about two years ago, and at first sight fell in love with his pictures. For me, they are full of emotions and feelings. And even his most gloomy and dark pictures all the same bring a positive mood," she said.

Director of the London Opera Gallery Jean-David Malat, for his part, expressed deep gratitude to everyone who is involved in the exhibition organization.

Bernard Buffet's exhibition at the Heydar Aliyev Center will continue until January 15.

The catalogue covering reproduction of Bernard Buffet works was published on the eve of the opening ceremony. The author of the preface in the catalogue is Leyla Aliyeva.

Buffet was born in Paris on June 10, 1928. Trained at the National School of the Fine Arts, Buffet is known as the founder of an extraordinary style merging parlor art with modernism.

The artist gained his real fame with his melancholic monochrome portraits. He produced religious pieces, landscapes, portraits and still-lifes, more than 8,000 paintings and many prints.

Major exhibitions of Buffet's works were held each year until his very death. His personal museum was established in Surugadaira, Japan, in 1973.

The center earlier hosted a number of exhibitions of local and foreign artists, including the photo exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson and the exhibition of sculptures by Tony Cragg.
