Iraq invites Azerbaijan to partake in reconstruction of its infrastructure

Iraq has called on Azerbaijan to take part in the reconstruction of the infrastructure devastated as a result of the events that took part in the country in recent years.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari made the remark during a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov within the framework of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly on September 26, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of development of Azerbaijani-Iraqi relations.

Al-Jafari spoke of the situation in the country, noting that significant damage was caused to a range of infrastructure facilities in Iraq as a result of the events that have happened and asked Azerbaijan to consider participating in their recovery.

Mammadyarov, in turn, praised his last visit to Iraq and noted that consistent work is being conducted on the agreements reached during the visit.

He also informed his counterpart about the current state of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the process of its settlement.

Mammadyarov further said he highly appreciated the support of friendly countries in settling the conflict in accordance with the principles of international law.

He invited the Iraqi counterpart to visit Azerbaijan and the invitation was accepted.

The other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.

On the same day, Mammadyarov also met with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos Lopes.

The sides discussed the development of cooperation between the two countries, economic and cooperation opportunities investment in sphere, as well as cooperation within international organizations and agreed to carry out reciprocal visits.
