UNICEF has praised Azerbaijan's policy towards children.

This was voiced at the meeting of UNICEF Baku office head Andro Shilkadze with chair of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children`s Affairs Hijran Huseynova.

Shilkadze also stressed the necessity of deepening the bilateral cooperation with the Azerbaijani government.

Huseynova, in turn, said the protection of children`s rights and settlement of their problems was among key government priorities.

She lauded the role of Azerbaijan`s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva in ensuring favorable conditions for strengthening the protection of children`s rights and providing them with quality education.

Huseynova said Azerbaijan maintained close partnership with a number of international organizations, including UNICEF. "This cooperation gives a push to the implementation of important projects aimed at ensuring the development of children," she noted.

The United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF - works for children's rights, their survival, development and protection, guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UNICEF is mandated by the UN General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
