Baku, Kuala-Lumpur ink MoUs on partnership

Prime Minister of Malaysia Mohammad Najib Tun Abdul Razak was officially welcomed in Baku on September 12.

President Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva warmly welcomed of Malaysian Prime Minister Abdul Razak and his spouse Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor. Then, the national anthems of Malaysia and Azerbaijan were played.

The Azerbaijani and Malaysian top officials further discussed bilateral ties between the two countries.

President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Abdul Razak held one-on-one and expanded meetings.

During the one-on-one meeting, the sides expressed their satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations on various fronts.

They noted that there was good ground for the expansion of ties between the two countries. The importance of the Malaysian Prime Minister's visit to Azerbaijan was also emphasized. The parties expressed confidence that the relations between the countries would continue to develop.

The sides also exchanged views on international affairs and other issues of mutual interest.

Following their private talk, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Abdul Razak met in an expanded format with the participation of two sides' delegations.

The ceremony of signing documents was held after the expanded meeting. President Aliyev and Prime Minister Abdul Razak signed a joint declaration on friendly relations and partnership between the two countries.

Meanwhile, a MoU on cooperation in the oil and gas sector between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR ) and the Malaysian company "Petroliam Nasional Berhad" was signed by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev and CEO of "Petroliam Nasional Berhad" company Tan Sri Dato' Shamsul Azhar bin Abbas.

Another MoU was signed on cooperation in the field of training of diplomats between the Azerbaijani government (represented by ADA University under Foreign Ministry) and Malaysian government (represented by the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry) by Deputy Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, ADA University Rector Hafiz Pashayev and General Manager of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry Dato Hussein Nayan.

Following the signing ceremony, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Abdul Razak held a joint press conference.

Also, Azerbaijani First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva held a meeting with spouse of the Malaysian Prime Minister Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor on September 12.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in April, 1993. Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Malaysia in September, 2005.
