Georgia, Azerbaijan to hold ‘Security of the Caucasus – 2014’ exercises

A preparatory meeting was held at the Tbilisi-based
International Studies Division of the Department of Emergency
Situations of the Georgian Interior Ministry as Georgia and
Azerbaijan plan to hold 'Security of the Caucasus - 2014'
exercises.
The exercises will be held on September 5 at the Yagludzhe site
involving both Georgian and Azerbaijani rescuers, the Georgian
ministry reported.
The preparatory meeting participants reviewed the training
methodology, technical and organizational issues. Training points
and goals were also considered.
The purpose of large-scale exercises is to coordinate joint actions
of appropriate agencies of Georgia and Azerbaijan in
emergencies.
The exercises will be held under the Memorandum of Cooperation
between the Interior Ministries of the two countries.
In addition, rescuers will conduct exercises to improve
coordination of their actions on the elimination of oil leakage at
sea and on land under an agreement with BP.
The exercise will be attended by the Interior Ministry, Ministry of
Labor, Health and Social Affairs, the Emergency Situations Ministry
of Azerbaijan, BP, BP Briggs contractor (BRIGGS), and Energy Invest
JSC representatives.
