The Azerbaijani-Russian inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation will have its 15th session in Yekaterinburg in 2015.

Spokesman for the Ministry for Foreign Economic Contacts of the Sverdlovk region Yelena Palatkina made the remark on August 26.

She said that the Russian Economic Development Ministry has already approved the event.

Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev visited Azerbaijan this spring as a part of the Russian forum in Baku and proposed to host the session in Yekaterinburg.

The region's authorities believe that holding an interstate meeting in Yekaterinburg will allow discussion of regional aspects of the cooperation at the federal level.

"Due to an intensified mutual trade, and investment projects are realized both in Sverdlovsk Oblast and in Azerbaijan, there are issues that need to be addressed at different levels. That is why we strive to include in the agenda of such meetings specific proposals for specific projects," Andrey Sobolev, Minister for International and Foreign Economic Contacts of the Sverdlovsk region, said.

Azerbaijani businessmen work in 71 regions of Russia. Some 479 companies with Russian investments were registered in Azerbaijan in 2004-2012.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia amounted to $1.086 billion in January-July, 2014. The import of goods from Russia to Azerbaijan during the period amounted to $698.038 million, while exports to Russia stood at $383.77 million, according to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee.

The last meeting of the commission was held on March 18, 2011 in Moscow.
