Azerbaijani, Georgian defense ministers meet in Nakhchivan

Azerbaijani and Georgian Defense Ministers have met in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR).

Zakir Hasanov and Irakli Alasania arrived in Nakhchivan to attend a meeting of the defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey on August 18, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz is expected to arrive in Nakhchivan August 18 afternoon.

The program of the ministers' visit includes holding a trilateral meeting, a meeting with the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) Vasif Talibov, observing the military units, and a cultural program, the report said.

The visit of the heads of law enforcement agencies to Nakhchivan will last until August 19.

The political analysts assessed the trilateral meeting of defense ministers as a new stage in the integration process of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

The deputy chairman of Azerbaijani parliament's security and defense committee, MP Aydin Mirzazade told local media that the three countries share the same position over many issues-they can contribute to the energy, transport spheres, in military cooperation, in realization of united military policy, in army building and the maintenance of stability in the region.

The analyst believes that the resolution of conflicts in the region will be that main issue of discussions in the meeting.
