Yerevan, ignoring the international calls on refraining from the use of force on the line of contact separating Armenian and Azerbaijani troops, continues its aggressive attacks.

Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry reported that an Armenian subversive group attempted to cross the contact line in the territories of Azerbaijan's Tovuz region at 13:30 local time on August 7.

The enemy`s attempt was prevented due to the alertness of the Azerbaijani military units located on the front line.

Four members of the sabotage and diversion group were killed while retreating. Azerbaijani soldiers arrested 25-year-old member of the group, villager of Chinari of Armenia`s Berd region Karen Petrosyan.

Currently, the investigation is underway regarding the group`s plan and activities.

Besides, the residents of Aghbulag village of Tovuz region detained Armenian citizen Ardush Petrosyan, born in 1965.

The villagers handed him over to the relevant structures, the local media reported on August 7.

Armenian armed forces aggravated tensions along the frontline by attacking the Azerbaijani positions. Armenia began to escalate tensions on the border areas on July 31. Sporadic fighting has continued ever since. Thirteen Azerbaijani servicemen were killed and several others injured during the clashes between two sides.

Armenian forces retreated after fierce fighting and suffering from heavy losses. Armenia hasn't released yet the exact number of casualties.

For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict which emerged over Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since 1994, but long-standing efforts by U.S., Russian and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on its pullout from the neighboring country's territories.
