Oxford scholars visit Cabinet of Ministers

A meeting with the scholars of the Oxford University has been held at Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers, AzerTag state news agency reported.

Azerbaijani Deputy Premier Elchin Efandiyev hailed establishment of the Scientific Center of Azerbaijan and Caucasian Studies named after Nizami Ganjavi at the Oxford University as a greatest value given to the Azerbaijani literature.

Efandiyev noted the scientific importance of the establishment of such Center in terms of enriching Azerbaijani language, literature, history, culture, as well as scientific potential of future generations.

Rector of Baku branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Nargiz Pashayeva said the Scientific Center of Azerbaijan and Caucasian Studies after Nizami Ganjavi created at the University of Oxford was the first scientific center specialized on the history and culture of the Caucasus region.

Pashayeva expressed confidence that the cooperation with the Oxford University would yield successful results.

Professor at the Oriental Institute of the University of Oxford Martin Edmund Herzig, Professor at the Institute of Oriental Studies at Oxford University and a leading researcher at the Center for the Study of Antiquity at the New York University Robert Gerard Hoyland thanked for the cooperation.

Creation of the Scientific Center of Azerbaijan and Caucasian Studies after Nizami Ganjavi initiated by Professor Pashayeva is the joint project of the Baku branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Oxford University.
