Azerbaijan's First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva met mayor of the city of Cannes David Lisnard on July 9.

The first lady is visiting French city as part of the Days of Azerbaijan that is being held with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation from July 8 and will continue until July 31.

Mentioning that Azerbaijan was holding a series of events in Cannes for the second time, Lisnard noted that, as opposed to the last year, this time Azerbaijan gave priority to sports event, and that this coincided with the development perspectives of Cannes.

Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her pleasure of presenting Azerbaijan's cultural treasures in Cannes.

Emphasizing the extensive sports events included in this year's programme, she said this was associated with Baku hosting the First European Games in summer of 2015.

Discussions were also held on future joint projects during the meeting.

Baku Games is a major sport event for the country. The Europe's first multi-sport event will gather more than 6,000 athletes from 49 countries affiliated to the European Olympic Committees to compete in 19 sports in Azerbaijan's capital on June 12-28.

Days of Azerbaijan is running under the slogan "Azerbaijan: the Country of Traditions and Future" in Cannes.

Within the framework of the Days of Azerbaijan, visitors will have a chance to see Azerbaijan in different aspects, together with its history, music, literature, and classical and modern art.

The program of the event includes such exhibitions as "Looking from the Past, France through Azerbaijani Artists' Eyes", "Azerbaijan: a Land of Traditions and Future" and "Nizami Ganjavi", that will give a chance to French citizens and tourists to get acquainted with Azerbaijan's history, traditions and literature.

The event will also feature a project called "From Traditions to Future Azerbaijan Glamour" by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Meanwhile a collection of dresses made by Italian fashion designer Renato Balestra based on Azerbaijan's national ornaments will familiarize local visitors with dress traditions and application of these traditions to contemporary fashion in Azerbaijan.

The foundation has been successful implementing a series of projects in Italy, France, Greece, Russia and other countries to promote Azerbaijan.

These projects are aimed at featuring the old and contemporary Azerbaijan and strengthening relations between countries and nations.
