Azerbaijan, U.S. mull regional energy projects

Azerbaijan and the U.S. have discussed the regional energy projects and other issues of mutual interest.

To this end, Deputy Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Khalaf Khalafov met with a senior adviser of U.S. State Department Bureau of Energy, Daniel Stein on June 3, the ministry said.

During the meeting, Khalafov provided detailed information about the projects in the energy sector, implemented in the region.

He noted that Azerbaijan always attached great importance to the development of regional relations, and stressed the importance of bilateral and multilateral dialogue in this direction.

Khalafov also emphasized the importance of strengthening and development of the spirit of international cooperation, support of partners, the development of relations with the littoral states to maintain security and stability in the Caspian region.

Briefing about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its consequences, Khalafov said Armenia's unconstructive position impedes settlement of the problem.

He noted the importance of the principled position of the international community on the conflict.

Since Azerbaijan's emergence as an independent nation in 1991, the U.S.-Azerbaijan relationship has evolved into a strategic partnership based on mutual interests and common values.

At present, Azerbaijan-U.S. relations are developing rapidly.
