Azerbaijan and Honduras discussed the issues of mutual interest as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero de Corrales on May 7.

During the meeting, President Aliyev noted that the two countries had established partnership relations in a short period of time, and expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations.

The head of the state then presented Corrales the Dostlug (Friendship) Order of Azerbaijan in recognition of her contribution to the development of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The Honduran foreign minister, in turn, conveyed greetings of Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado to Azerbaijan's president and invited him on behalf of his Honduran counterpart to visit Honduras. Corrales also expressed her gratitude for the Dostlug Order, one of Azerbaijan's top awards.

President Aliyev expressed his appreciation for the greetings of Alvarado and asked the Honduran foreign minister to convey his greetings to the President of Honduras.

Azerbaijan's Economy and Industry Minister Shahin Mustafayev also met a delegation headed by Mireya Agüero de Corrales.

Noting that the visit of the Honduran delegation to Azerbaijan would contribute to the development of cooperation between the countries, Mustafayev said currently, Azerbaijan and Honduras cooperate within international organizations.

Mustafayev emphasized the importance of creating a legal and economic framework for the expansion of relations between the countries, adding that there are great opportunities for cooperation in the fields of agriculture.

Corrales, in turn, noted the importance of the exchange of views for the expansion of ties, emphasizing the possibility of cooperation in the fields of communications, agriculture, tourism and so on.

Mireya Agüero de Corrales also met Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov.

Speaking about the history of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Honduras, Asadov hailed the bilateral political cooperation, saying it is constantly developing. He also highlighted potential for boosting economic cooperation between the two countries.

The speaker praised a resolution of the Honduran National Congress recognizing the occupation of Azerbaijan's lands by Armenia and the Khojaly Massacre.

Corrales, in turn, noted there is enough potential to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different areas, including trade, finance, and energy, adding that she is well aware about Azerbaijan's development, particularly the country's increasing influence and rapid economic development.

Asadov presented medals of the Azerbaijani Parliament to representative of the Honduran International Court of Justice Carlos Lopez Contreras and the country's ambassador to Mexico Jose Mariano Castillo afterwards.

Talking to journalists about Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Corrales said any aggression against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity should be discussed on an international scale.

She said earlier this year the National Congress of Honduras had adopted a resolution recognizing the occupation of Azerbaijan's lands and the Khojaly genocide. Corrales added that the resolution was approved by the president and secretaries of the Congress, noting that the Honduran government condemned the Armenian aggression in the resolution.

"Honduras also faces the problem of refugees and IDPs. As a result, we understand Azerbaijan's problem in this field," she said. "We acknowledge the importance of the fact that the issue of the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity should be discussed within international framework," she said.
