Azerbaijani athletes win 104 medals since early 2014

Azerbaijan held 192 events as part of the measures for the implementation of youth policy in 2013.

The news was announced by the country's Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov during a press conference on April 23.

Of these events, 38 were international and 154 were local, and they were attended by over 200 young people, the minister said.

Rahimov said Ganja was chosen as the European Youth Capital of 2016, adding that the country was nominated to host the 41st World Scout Conference and the 13th World Scout Youth Forum in 2017.

In addition, archaeological expeditions organized for students in Gabala and Lerik were attended by 160 young people from 15 universities.

The minister stated that country's Guba region became the Youth capital following the results of voting this year, adding that Azerbaijan will host the International Forum of Young Scientists, "Live Page of History" Youth Festival, country's 7th Youth Forum, 1st Global Forum on Youth Policy, and other activities in 2014.

The minister said Azerbaijan held 51 tournaments of national significance and 41 international ones in three months, adding that the Azerbaijani teams participated in 33 training sessions.

Rahimov noted that the Azerbaijani athletes won 25 gold, 31 silver, and 48 bronze medals over the last three months; generally speaking, they won 104 medals at representative tournaments for three months.

Azad Rahimov also said Azerbaijan will host the European Championships in rhythmic gymnastics and taekwondo, the "Nakhchivan Open-2014" international chess tournament, and other competitions this year.

It should be mentioned that 13 sports facilities were commissioned in 2013 and in the first quarter of 2014, and agreements with Tunisia, Russia, Argentina, Vietnam, Malaysia, and other countries in the field of sports were presented to the government.
