Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received former Foreign Minister of France Hubert Védrine on April 14.

The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and France, as well as regional and international issues.

Later, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met Védrine to discuss prospects for developing bilateral relations.

Speaking at the event, Mammadyarov highlighted the state of talks to find a peaceful solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He said the non-constructive position of Armenia negatively influences the settlement of the problem and prevents regional development.

The minister added that Armenia, because of its aggressive policy, had remained isolated of large scaled regional projects initiated by Azerbaijan.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and France were established in 1992. The trade turnover between the two countries reached about $2 two billion in 2012.

The legal framework for bilateral cooperation includes 42 documents, and about 40 French companies operate in Azerbaijan.
