Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev started visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on April 7.

A guard of honor was lined up for the Azerbaijani leader at the Nakhchivan International Airport.

President Aliyev was welcomed by Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov and other officials.

The Head of State reviewed the guard of honor.

Later, President Aliyev met Nakhchivan's officials.

As part of the visit, President Aliyev officially inaugurated a new administrative building of the Nakhchivan International Airport.

Vasif Talibov and President of Azerbaijan Airlines Jahangir Asgarov informed the President that there are 53 offices in the new building, as well as conference halls and foreign language rooms.

The new administrative building was constructed as part of a project to remodel the air terminal of the airport. Once remodeled, the state-of-the-art air terminal will help improve the airport's passenger transportation services and bring its security to international standards.

The President was told that after remodeling the air terminal will have a capacity of handling nearly 500 passengers per hour.

President Aliyev also viewed new vehicles and equipment purchased as part of the measures to modernize the transport infrastructure and improve security at the Nakhchivan International Airport.

Also, President Aliyev visited a monument to National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Nakhchivan city.

The Head of State laid flowers at the monument.

Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, which is an Azerbaijani exclave situated on the border of Iran with 410,000 Azerbaijani inhabitants, has been blocked by Armenia almost 25 years ago.
