Azerbaijan's State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations and United Nations Alliance of Civilizations reached an agreement on an action plan that will be signed and operational after relevant procedures.

The agreement on the Action Plan, in addition to the Memorandum of Understanding which was signed between the sides on September 27, 2013, was reached at the meeting between state committee representative Elshad Iskandarov and high representative of the Alliance Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser in Istanbul on February 5.

The action plan envisages the implementation of joint projects between the state committee and the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations in the spheres of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue and strengthening the civil society.

Iskandarov said cooperation with the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations is important for the country, adding that Azerbaijan has held numerous events within the Alliance.

Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, in turn, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with Azerbaijan, and pointed out that work on expanding cooperation will continue with the implementation of the projects agreed upon in the action plan.

Under the cooperation agreement signed last September, the activity of the National Tolerance Center, established jointly with the UN Alliance of Civilizations and the State Committee, and the spread of Azerbaijan's tolerance and multiculturalism model in the world will be supported.
