Switzerland is interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan in various spheres, President of the Council of States of Switzerland Hannes Germann said at a meeting with Azerbaijan's Ambassador Akram Zeynalli.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of relations between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, and highlighted the need for further development of relations, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry reported.

Zeynalli emphasized the role of parliaments in the development of relations, the importance of activity of friendship groups, as well as mutual visits.

Moreover, Zeynalli invited Germann to become a member of the Switzerland-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, and this proposal was accepted.

The meeting also discussed aspects of bilateral economic and political relations, including the activities of enterprises operating in both countries, as well as exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Switzerland is one of the largest investors in the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan's fast-growing economy. More than 70 companies with Swiss capital are registered in the country.

Azerbaijani companies are also interested in the Swiss economy. Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR has already invested 380 million Swiss francs ($322.3 million), and a representative office of the company is operating in Switzerland.
