Official establishment of the Azerbaijan-Vietnam inter-parliamentary friendship group was held at a special ceremony in Hanoi this week.

Vice Chairman of Vietnam`s National Assembly Uong Chu Luu, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Vietnam Anar Imanov, and Vietnamese MPs who were part of the group attended the event.

The event featured speeches by Tran Dinh Nha and Anar Imanov, head of the Friendship Group and Vice Head of the Vietnam National Assembly Committee on National Defense and Security.

The group includes six members of Vietnam's National Assembly.

The participants hailed the relations between the two countries as friendly, and opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Vietnam was highly praised for boosting bilateral relations to a new level.

The active development of Vietnam and Azerbaijan and the great potentials that exist for deepening partnership was emphasized at the event.

The Vietnam-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group was established at the National Assembly of Vietnam on November 6.

Earlier in October, Vietnam simplified the visa regime for Azerbaijani citizens, making it possible for Azerbaijani citizens to obtain a visa upon arrival at Vietnam's airports.

Vietnam does not have an embassy in Azerbaijan, which has made it difficult for Azerbaijani citizens to obtain visas. According to the new rules, Azerbaijani citizens only need to provide the relevant documents given by the Vietnamese travel agencies regarding their trip in order to get a visa.

Vietnam recognized Azerbaijan's independence on December 27, 1991, and the two countries established diplomatic relations on September 23, 1992. Vietnam and Azerbaijan's relations have been brotherly and traditional.

Cooperation between the two countries is promising in the energy, agricultural, and tourism sectors.
