Uruguay interested in boosting ties with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Uruguayan Parliament, Herman Cardoso, have signed an agreement on cooperation in Baku.

The parties also discussed opportunities for further development of economic and trade cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uruguay.

Herman Cardoso further met Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. During the meeting Cardoso was familiarized with the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. Both of them expressed interest in boosting bilateral relations.

The Uruguayan delegation also visited the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Alley of Honors and put a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Earlier, an Azerbaijani delegation headed by the chairman of the Azerbaijani-Uruguayan intergovernmental working group, Javanshir Feyziyev, visited Uruguay. During the visit, which took place from April 29 to May 2, talks focused on inter-parliamentary ties and the relations in other fields.

Uruguay is one of the most economically-developed countries in South America and is a member of the World Trade Organization.
