President Aliyev inspects newly reconstructed facilities in north region

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the Children`s Creative Center in Shamakhi constructed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, in the frame of the visit to Shamakhi region, 106 kilometers west of Baku, on May 16.
President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the center was built in 1959. The music school in the center has 11 departments. There are 384 students in the facility served by 70 teachers.
The 3-storey center has 54 educational, 2 make-up, 2 drawing, 2 dancing and auxiliary rooms, as well as an assembly hall and an exhibition hall. The rooms were equipped with latest technologies.
President Ilham Aliyev listened overture from "Koroghlu" opera by Azerbaijani prominent composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, performed by orchestra of folklore musical instruments of the Children`s Creative Center.
Ilham Aliyev also inspected the Shamakhi Olympic Sports Complex after reconstruction.
The Head of State was informed that the facility was one of the biggest Olympic sports complexes in the region. All conditions have been created here for holding sports events. The reconstruction work started here in February, 2010.
The president viewed a football ground, a swimming pool, a conference hall, sports halls and rooms and praised the work done in the complex.
During the visit, Ilham Aliyev inspected the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory after major overhaul.
President of the Academy of National Sciences of Azerbaijan Akif Alizade informed the Head of State about the reconstruction work.
An administrative building, exhibition hall, a 110-seat lecture hall, 6 telescope buildings and a building of main 2-meter telescope were repaired, and a 110-seat canteen was built.
The Observatory has Baku City Branch, Department of "Solar Physics", Department of "Physics of Solar - Terrestrial Relations", and Department of "Plants and Small Celestial Bodies". The observatory operates under scientific program confirmed by the Academy.
The Head of State was informed about the activity of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory.
Director of the Observatory Eyyub Guliyev spoke of the future works on modernization and automation of the telescopes.
