Conference on Azerbaijan`s foreign policy held in Paris
A conference entitled "Azerbaijan`s foreign policy: possibilities and challenges" took place in Paris on May 14.
Organized by Azerbaijani embassy in France, the French Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defense and the Sinopia think tank, the conference focused on geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan`s foreign policy and its role in the region.
The conference held in the Azerbaijani Cultural Center was attended by French officials, politicians, researchers and journalists.
Speaking at the conference, official of the Sinopia think tank Jean-Marc Schaub praised Azerbaijan`s role in the region and international scene.
He said the French public has not enough information about Azerbaijan, adding the conference will contribute to highlighting the country`s realities.
In his speech on Azerbaijan`s history, economy and foreign policy, Azerbaijani ambassador Elchin Amirbayov briefed the participants on problems faced by the country during last 20 years of the independence, as well as its accomplishments and dynamic development.
The ambassador highlighted Azerbaijan`s key priorities for foreign policy -- European integration process, oil strategy and participation in fight against international terrorism.
In his presentation, Amirbayov spoke of Armenia`s aggression policy against Azerbaijan, historical roots of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, current situation in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan and ongoing peace talks over the conflict.
The ambassador also touched upon Azerbaijan-France relationship, in particular political, economic and cultural cooperation.
Amirbayov`s speech also covered issues like religious tolerance in Azerbaijan and the country`s contribution to intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
Representative of the Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defense Caroline Gors Combala presented the Institute`s medal of memory to the Azerbaijani ambassador for his efforts to popularize Azerbaijan in France.
