Georgian PM no longer sees problem with Baku-Kars railway project implementation

Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has said that he no longer sees any problem with the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, which aims to link the railway systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, Trend news agency reported.

"Earlier I stated that after the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, cargo transportation via Georgian railways may be reduced. But that was a premature statement. In fact, there is no problem in this issue," he told Georgian journalists on Wednesday following his official meetings in Baku.

Ivanishvili said the meeting with the Azerbaijani president was held in a very friendly and warm atmosphere.

"And at that meeting, I stressed that my statement was premature, and there is no problem on this matter," Ivanishvili said.

Answering to a question about gas fees, Ivanishvili said that Azerbaijan sells gas to Georgia at a very affordable price. According to Ivanishvili, Azerbaijan exports gas to Georgia at a price that slightly higher than prices in Azerbaijan.

"I thanked the President and the head of the government of Azerbaijan for the conditions created for Georgia," he said.

Ivanishvili shared with Georgian journalists his impressions of meetings with Azerbaijani leadership.

"I saw that it is a real state, which does a great job for its people," he said.

According to Ivanishvili, the Azerbaijani leadership has farsighted attitude to governance. "After the meeting with the President and Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, I was convinced that there are excellent relations between our countries. If there were any minor issues between us we could solve them in a friendly atmosphere," he said.
