French envoy: Status quo on Karabakh must change
The status quo in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh does not meet anyone's interests, and it should be changed, newly appointed French Ambassador in Baku, Pascal Meunier, said at a meeting with Azerbaijani Interior Minister Ramil Usubov on Wednesday, the ministry told Trend news agency.
Meunier said his country is interested in ensuring security in the region.
Usubov said representatives of the French interior ministry and Council of Europe experts were involved in the drafting of new legislation on law enforcement bodies' activity in Azerbaijan.
Usubov spoke of the measures taken in the country in the area of security and protection of human rights and freedoms.
The minister said relations between the two countries have a long history. He stressed that French companies have made hefty investments in Azerbaijan's economy and that friendly and partnership relations reached a new level after President Ilham Aliyev's visit to France.
