Appeal to Paris Mayor: Lawlessness, starting with recognition of separatism, ends in terror

By Elmira Tariverdiyeva

Officials of France, a country co-chairing the OSCE Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, in a paradoxical manner openly support separatism in Nagorno-Karabakh – an Azerbaijani region that has been under Armenian occupation for so many years.

Office of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund in France will from November 18 to 22 hold the 16th European fundraising telethon. The telethon will be held under the patronage of the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo.

All the money from fundraising will go to construction of community centers in the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has been for many years in an international isolation as a recognized Azerbaijani territory.

Alas, the mayor of Paris, openly supports the individuals who violate the international law. France is a European country. It was one of the countries which first imposed the sanctions against Russia after joining the breakaway region of Ukraine – Crimea. France itself has recently faced with the lawlessness.

The policy of double standards is obvious. The sanctions are imposed against Russia for assisting the separatists of Donetsk and Lugansk. The Russian officials are blamed for meeting with the representatives of the separatist regimes of Georgia and South Ossetia. But any assistance to the Nagorno-Karabakh separatists by the French remains unnoticed.

France is among the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, which are supposed to help Azerbaijan and Armenia resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The issue of France’s just presence in this format appeared long ago.

All the more so, it not the first time that namely French officials, pursuing provocative purposes, forget that France officially recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh as the integral part of Azerbaijan.

Mayor of France’s Villeurbanne city Jean-Paul Bret received the head of the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh Bako Sahakyan in May and even signed an agreement between the Villeurbanne city and Azerbaijan’s Shusha city which has been under Armenian occupation for over 20 years already.

French officials should take into account one thing - lawlessness, which begins with ignoring the basic international norms and support for separatism, often ends with terror as a result of which innocent people, Including 129 French citizens are killed.
